Hello world!

Soula inspired me to upgrade my Wordpress installation to Dexter. Unfortunately, it caused big, scary error mesages to appear anywhere on the page there was a database call. Yuck.

I exported everything and renamed my nessahead.com dir to nessahead.old so that I could do a fresh Wordpress installation on the root dir. Then I imported and here we are!

Wheeee. Tags. Was it all really worth it?

Anniversary

Today is the first year anniversary of the day I set up my savings account. Setting up that account was the first step towards the life I love to live now. I am so grateful for everyone’s support in the past year. Thank you so much. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Home again, home again, jiggity jig

Wish I was singing that song right now.

Looked at the calendar today and figured out that while I’d only moved into my apartment eight weeks ago, I had taken 6 or 7 trips to Los Angeles in that time. I can only attribute my surprise to the zombie-like stupor due to all the crazy traveling.

On Wednesday I will be driving back to my lovely apartment in Los Osos and STAYING there, dammit.
(I’ve put 2,000 miles on my brand-new Honda Fit already. *cry*)

(At least I’m getting 36 mpg.)

(But I miss seeing my boyfriend.)

Come and see the violence inherent in the system!

I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!

Best Worf line, ever.

The Fit is Go.

After months of constant dread that my Jetta would blow up and then 4 visits to the mechanic in as many weeks, I have finally rid myself of that clunker. Thursday saw me at Sierra Honda in Monrovia, purchasing a brand-new Honda Fit!

It’s a small 4-door hatchback that gets 31-37 mpg. The seats fold into 4 different configurations that are all cool as hell. In Tall Mode the rear seat flips up so that you can fit things like bikes in the back seat. Utility Mode has the rear seats folded down flat for carrying lots of junk. In Long Mode part of the backseat’s 60/40 split folds down while the front passenger seat scoots all the way forward and reclines to create a flat cargo area that can fit things up to 7′ 10″ long. But the best mode of all is Refresh Mode - the rear seats recline while the front seats scoot all the way forward and recline down flat to create a seamless lounge. You can sit in the back seat and stretch your legs out over the front seats and be comfy as can be.

Rick and I put Refresh Mode to the test Saturday night when we went to the San Luis Obispo drive-in theater with a couple friends. While they hung out in their truck bed with a futon mattress, pillows and blanket we stretched out in the Fit for a double feature: Halloween and Superbad. Damn that car is cool! It has to be seen to be believed.

Random updates

  • Along with a slight disc problem between Pixel’s thoracic and lumbar spine, x-rays have found a calcium deposit on his cervical spine (sound familiar?) that is causing the majority of his pain. Rest (no running, jumping or stairs), NSAIDs and a halter instead of collar were prescribed.
  • The massive flea infestation in my bedroom left behind by the previous tenant (and her three cats) is successfully being treated by my landlord’s hired exterminator. (Thank you, Landlord!)
  • Have purchased an excellent vacuum (Sears Kenmore Progressive Bagless Upright with Intelli-Clean system) to help combat the fleas. Seems to be working so far.
  • DirecTV is scheduled for Sunday. Hopefully will have the NFL Sunday Ticket fully functional for next weekend’s games.
  • Also am on the lookout for a nice used TV on SLO’s craigslist. Football will be no fun viewed on my 12″ screen from 1986.
  • Will be in LA this week to finish emptying Mom’s house (escrow closes soon, yay!).
  • Picked up a used washer and dryer from craigslist for $350. $100 for delivery and another $30 for hoses and things. (I installed it myself!) After drying 3 loads the dryer’s not heating up anymore. Service appointment scheduled for Friday. Am hoping it’s not more than $200 to fix or else I’ll feel like an idiot for not buying new.
  • Car broke down AGAIN a week ago. Got it fixed (thank god I bought that extended warranty) but then the engine light came on again the next day. Am ready to take a sledgehammer to the damn thing. Will probably trade it in for Honda Fit instead. Once I get the engine light off.
