GTD: Email as inbox via your cellphone’s voice recorder and text messaging

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I realized the other day that my Samsung cellphone has a shortcut button that sends you to the voice recorder. In poking around the options I also realized that you could set a default destination for every voice note recorded. When I think of something that I want to remember later I can record it and my cellphone automatically sends it to my email address. When I get to a computer I can then process the voice notes as I would any incoming email.

  1. On the four-way nav button on my Samsung I hit the right one to go to the voice recorder.
  2. I hit the center button to start and stop recording a voice note.
  3. Open the Options menu and set the Default Destination to Email Address > your@email.com

Probably a good idea to make sure you won’t get charged too much for all these text messages you’ll be sending. On my T-Mobile account I have 400 text messages for $4.99 (and that counts multimedia messages and text messages as the same).

Christmas vacation was a success

Spent a lot of time working on the garage (thank you to Cathy and Rick for your help). Family has picked up some stuff (thank you Lito, Auntie and the rest) and the massive number of boxes to donate (12′x5′x4′) has been carted away (thank you Salvation Army). I was able to get away with only keeping a few things (4′x4′x4′). I’d estimate there’s one more day’s worth of work in the garage and then it’ll be time to start in on the inside of the house.

Progress feels great!
